V. Thomas Parker (Tom Parker)

Botany, evolutionary ecology, community ecology

Welcome! This website celebrates plants, but from my perspective. Because I'm an ecologist interested in evolution and interactions, we'll end up celebrating different types of organisms as well. I have a diverse history, but mostly have worked in California chaparral and tidal wetlands, two types of vegetation not always appreciated for their diversity and beauty. In chaparral I have concentrated on the ecology and evolution of Arctostaphylos species, taxa in the small Ericaceae subfamily Arbutoideae. They are an amazingly fascinating group! The more you learn, the more they seem to surprise you. Tidal wetlands! What can I say? These are those transitional areas between land and water and feature stars of the plant world that have adapted to these strange places. This site is under construction and will continue to grow through time, so come back for more adventures. You can contact me at tom 'at' vthomasparker.org or parker 'at' sfsu.edu
